I don't think the problem

lies within the screwdown crown paired with a manual wind movement - there are several Rolex handcrankers with screw down crown that have worked for decades without a problem, so if you are careful to avoid crossthreading the crown and tube you are safe I guess. I think the problem is the "split" case of the Reverso, it has a gap all the way round it along the flank.

But tbh. how much water resistance do you really need in a sports watch? If it's not water sports I guess that is more than enough. I never had an issue during sporty activity with my Vintage watches with virtually no water resistance at all, as long as the seals can stop the sweat and prevent condensation inside the case you should be fine. When you go swimming that's another case, my minimum requirement is 100m WR and a screw down crown, I somehow don't trust Push-Pull crowns in combination with being submerged in water...

The Reverso is one of THE classics

and probably the defining model for JLC for a reason. I mean, there is just not a single flaw or afterthought in the design of this watch, it is just perfect even in the smallest (but closest to the original dimensions) and most simple variation: OK, mayb...

Well, actually this is the classique, it only looks huge in the picture

due to my small wrist and the angle how the photograph was taken. Medium would be the largest Reverso size that I can pull off on my small wrist, GT is unfortunately not doable for me size-wise.

Wow, cool!

Indeed, today we think of it as a dresswatch,

but its inventors had different plans

It's funny almost!

What was once considered sporty is now an elegant dress watch... Does that mean that our sports watches today must be really inelegant? Are we just getting sportier and less elegant?

For a sport watch, I expect better water resistant.

I don't think making a screw down crown and 100 meter WR is difficult? Okay, maybe because of the hand wound movement, a screw down crown will harm the thread because of frequent turn. Perhaps better seal?

Good point!

This watch is truly a classic watch in a bad way - back then in the 1930s, watches did not have much water resistance - not even sports watches!

I don't think the problem

Yes , my point is about swimming or cleaning the watch under tap, with soap and brush

How often I want to swim with my Reverso, but instead I had to took another watch. Few week ago I saw A Gran Sport, which I believe is the only reverso with screw down crown , automatic movement and steel bracelet. Almost pull the trigger, but the longish...

Yes, in this case I agree 100% with you -

flowing water or being submerged and 30m of water resistance don't go too well together.

Looks great. I also love the Classic for my small wrist.

A classic I agree but . . .

 By: chippyfly : May 17th, 2024-12:43
. . . I cannot live without a seconds hand unless a quartz movement. It's a childhood thing ever since my first watch aged 7 (a Newmark) with only two hands and with very loud tick. It died in the shared bath at boarding school! HAGWE! Clive ...

This version is also extremely nice!

 By: clemens m : May 17th, 2024-15:15
Some time ago I also NEEDED a seconds hand on the watch but nowadays i prefer just 2 hands on watches like the Tank for example and I can live without one on a Reverso, but it wouldn't hurt to have one.

Looks great on suede!

Love mine. ...

Thanks, the suede tones its formality down a bit,

 By: clemens m : May 17th, 2024-15:16
but your tan ostrich strap is a nice fit for a casual setting as well!
